Use Stef Niewadomski's guide to set up
your search parameters so that you only retrieve Eddystone Radio related
items and not loads of fishing gear, train pictures and lighthouses. See
below:
Searching for Eddystone Items
on eBay
Many of us like to take a
regular look on eBay to see what Eddystone products are up for sale, either
via the link on the EUG website or from our own internet browser. It’s best
to search in eBay’s All Categories, to make sure all Eddystone items are
found, but this has the disadvantage that many non-radio products come up in
the search. I always get lots of fishing gear, lighthouse-related items (of
course Stratton & Co chose to name its products ‘Eddystone’ after the
lighthouse as an indication of strength and reliability), photos of the SR
loco ‘34028’, maps, hotel books, and so on. It’s surprising how common the
Eddystone name is and sometimes difficult to see the items you intended to
view amongst all the ‘clutter’.
Ebay has a clever Find feature
which allows words to be excluded, as well as included, in searches. To
exclude a word you simply add a ‘–‘ symbol in front of the word, and many
excluded words can be listed in the same search, with a space between the
excluded words. Here’s the Find line I now use for my Eddystone searches:
eddystone -float -floats
-light -lighthouse -lighthouses -fishing -eel -eels -map -trace -tip
-butt -booms -34028 -engine
-ferry -rocks -henry -hotels
Just type this line into the
Find box in eBay and press the Search button. This should filter out all the
unwanted items on eBay.co.uk, but some strange items can still come up from
international sellers, which you can either live with, or try adding extra
words to exclude. Also if you’re searching from say eBay.com, you may have
to modify the exclude words to give a ‘clean’ search.
On a typical day this reduces
the result of a search from about 125 items to 30, all of which are
Eddystone radio related.
Don’t panic: you don’t have to
type this long line every time you want to carry out the search. When you’re
happy that it’s working correctly, either save it in eBay’s Favourite
Searches, or in the Favourites in your internet browser.

A couple of 659/670 receivers went recently, one on left for £15 and the
other for £33, condition is everything

*****
Quite a lot of Eddystone's have gone through E

below sold for only £94

****
EB36 sets are supposed to be quite rare but wouldn't you know it two come

so someone got a real bargain

*****
This clean looking Mimco 2232B (670c) fetched a very decent £144

The EB35 went for £102. I have always fancied one of those but it is a bit
too pricey for me.

****
Always popular when they come up for auction,
this 888A went for a very reasonable £117. The one that went the previous
month made £195

*****
This 990R/2 fetched a reasonable £165 recently. One went for £375 last year.

This EA12 fetched a very good price recently £379. The seller had asked EUG
for advice on selling and we implored him to find the mains lead for it
which he eventually did. Must have helped with the auction

*****
This 940 went for £160 which I think would have
been higher if the seller had not been located in Northern Ireland so
putting off those who like to travel to collect their receivers

******
This EPR17 pan-adaptor display unit went for
£52. Don't often see these at auction so I reckon this was a real bargain

left sold for £65 whilst the one on the right sold for £113
*******
This pair of Eddystone grey mounting
blocks type 812 sold for £85 on E bay this week (19/3/09). When new in 1954
they would have cost 11/6d. That's 57p in new money. They dont come on the
market very often but when they do, they attract this sort of money which
shows how rare they are.
*****
This EC10 Mk1, in quite nice condition
sold for £121 this week on Ebay (19/3/09) which is a very good price
*****
This 1002 only got £24 on E bay today
(22/2/09) because the seller had advertised as ex HMS Intrepid receiver in
the Collectibles/Militaria/Falklands War section. No mention of Eddystone
nor a placing in the radio equipment, collectables or consumer sections. As
a consequence the Eddystone watchers would have failed to see it so someone
got a real bargain, only needs a clean up and some knob inserts to make it
look good. Bet the buyer thinks it is Christmas again!
Despite the "Credit Crunch" we are still
seeing some incredible prices being paid for Eddystone Receivers at E Bay
auction. This nice example of a 680X sold for £225 this week (1/2/09)
*****
This EB35 also in very nice condition got
a massive £185 when the auction closed. Been a good week for Eddystone sets
on the E Bay
*******
These radios don't come up for sale very
often and for most of the auction this was at under £30, however in the end
it went for £272. Its a real monster and weighs 66kgs. The seller was in
Cornwall and so was the buyer. I would love to have one of these but were on
earth would you put it. Well done the buyer I still think you have a bargain
(27/10/08)
*****
This nice looking EA12 fetched top dollar
at a recent e bay auction. £565 meant that someone wanted it awfully badly.
However it was not a record (see below) 30/9/08
******
This 990R fetched a good price this week
(1/8/08) even though it was not guaranteed as working and had no mains
leads. Lots of good quality pictures though to tempt the buyer. It
eventually sold for £375
*****
Sometimes real bargains can be had on E
bay. This EC10 went for £31 this week (23/7/08), described as working but
possibly needing some realignment it did not look it too bad condition
*****
A particularly nice, clean and fully
working 940 sold for £230 this week on E bay. It was well described with
lots of photographs. (20/7/08)
******
840C Week on E bay(19/7/08)
These four sets all sold within a week of
each other for various prices. The one on the left was best described with
lots of pictures and got £82, the second left £77, the third left £50 and
the far right £28. The more effort you make in describing your product and
its condition the better prices you can obtain
*****
Quite Rare 770S UHF set sold for £207
*****
1590 General Purpose Receiver
sells for £132
*****
Pair of 774 feet make £82
******
Not an Eddystone set!.
This UHF Receiver Radio No 34A was
advertised as an Eddystone on E bay this week but careful detective work by
our founder Ted Moore proved conclusively that it was not made by the famous
company but by Hatfield Instruments. This is not the first time that these
sets have been advertised on E Bay as an Eddystone as two were sold two or
three years ago and ended up in our guide to Eddystone prices. Anyway this
is what they look like no doubt the buyer will quickly realise that it is
not what he thought it was. Thanks to Ron G8URU and Ted for sorting this one
out for us.(13/5/08)
*****
This S640 sold for £265 this week on E Bay
(1/4/08). It had been restored and was said to be in excellent working order
and good cosmetic condition. An S640 in almost identical condition sold for
the same about about 2 years ago (see below)
******
I think someone got a real bargain when
this 1990R/1061B/1535 system came up on E bay last week and sold for a
measly £238.(13/3/08)
*****
Someone must have been very keen to own a
990R as this one was sold for £470 on E bay this week. Doesn't look anything
special to me but perhaps I am missing something.(21/2/08)
Edometers have been getting very good
prices in the past 12 months. As much as £250. Someone got a bargain then
when this one sold for £90 on bay this week. It was complete and in very good
condition. There are bargains to be had on Eddystone products, perhaps
Xmas/New Year is not a good time to sell (7/1/08)
****
The 888 Amateur set is fairly rare and
always attracts good prices. This example fetched £206 on e bay this week
(24/11/07).
****

the 770U on the right got £221.
*****
This very rare Model 696 Absorption
Wavemeter was sold on E bay for the magnificent price of £338 (28/10/07)
****
This has got to be a record for a clean
EC10 Mk2. Someone paid £180 for this set on E bay this week (28/9/07)
****
Whilst this one which went on E bay in the
same month was sold for £108, and to me looks the nicer set.
****
You don't see many of these for sale, an
Eddystone 1004 badged as a Redifon RE1 was sold on E bay this week for £258
(13/5/07)
*****
This S750 sold on E bay for £185 this week
which I think was a very reasonable price (7/5/07)
*****
This was hard fought over by over 23
bidders but I think someone got a real bargain for this 1837/2 at only £172
on e bay this week (28/4/07)
****
S meters come up occasionally on E bay and
this one sold for £52 this week (14/4/07)

This rare EC10 with DF facilities was sold
on E bay this week for £123. It was known as the Seaguide and was marketed
by Marconi Marine ( MIMCO) the number underneath is the Marconi drawing
series Z being for MIMCO equipment. Not many about so this was probably a
good find for the new owner (23/10/06)
*****
Certainly not the rarest of the 830
series, this 830/7 none the less went for an excellent price on E bay this
week, £578. Its near mint condition obviously helped it reach this price
(26/10/06)
